February 8, 1927 ~ January 18, 2017
Pebble Beach
Yasuko was born on February 8, 1927 in Osaka, Japan. She passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2017. She leaves behind her daughter, Irene, and her son, Edward. Her husband, Thomas, passed away in 1997.
Yasuko enjoyed reading, writing letters in kanji, playing the piano and koto, singing and listening to music. She was skilled at sewing, origami, flower arranging and performing the Japanese tea ceremony which she also taught to her friends. She was a whiz at using the abacus, often beating electronic calculators to the answer. Yasuko loved animals of all kinds — birds and reptiles, fish and horses, and cats and dogs were all at some point a part of her life.
In her last years, Yasuko loved attending the former Visiting Nurse Association's (VNA) Senior Day Care program in Monterey for which we thank former program director Mia Gomez and her former dedicated, compassionate staff and volunteers. We are very much grateful to Dr. Shehab Saddy, who gave her excellent, supportive and compassionate medical care. We also thank the Central Coast VNA & Hospice for providing home care and support in her final days.
Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Yasuko's name to The Central Coast VNA & Hospice, PO Box 2480, Monterey, CA, 93942. Arrangements under the direction of The Paul Mortuary, Pacific Grove, CA.
