Carmel ~ Valerie M. Reynolds passed away at age 99 in Carmel. A native of Holtwood, Pennsylvania, she has lived locally for the past sixty years. Valerie received her BS Degree in 1934 from Temple University. She taught at Lancaster (Pennsylvania) High School and later was a substitute teacher in Monterey and Salinas High Schools for 20 years.
A member of the Monterey First Presbyterian Church and the Monterey History and Arts Association, Valerie also enjoyed membership in the Old Del Monte Club of the Naval Postgraduate School. She was an excellent seamstress and quilter.
Valerie is survived by her daughters, Karen (Burton) Brown of Berkeley and Jean (William) Andrewsen of Concord; her brother, Robert Lowy of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; her grandchildren, Kimberly Bixler, Kurt Brown, Kristin Tejnecky and Erik Andrewsen and her great-grandchildren, Kendall and Robert Reynolds Bixler, Jakob and Mackenzie Tejnecky, and Aliya and Ella Brown. Her husband of seventy-six years, Melvin, passed away at 102 on February 21, 2013. They met when 15 and 18 years old and were very much in love for 83 years. They will be sorely missed by all.
