Our dear mother and friend, Ruth Evelyn Weimer, was the only child born to Frances Mathilda Williams and Gaetano Giacomo Bazzoni on September 5, 1924 in San Jose, California. She spent much of her early years in her grand-parent’s home with her mother and aunts and uncles after her father died when she was 10 years old. She was affectionately called “Doll” by family and friends.
Ruth graduated from San Jose High School in June of 1942.
Ruth married Robert L Bates in June of 1944. They were the parents of two daughters, Pamela and Debra.
Shortly after becoming a single mother, Ruth joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in December of 1953. She and the two girls lived in Campbell, California.
Ruth worked in local banks, in San Jose, Campbell, and Fairfield, for many years. She was quite the square dancer in her day and has always been artistic and creative. She loved making floral arrangements for weddings and decorating. She enjoyed repurposing found objects and cultivated this craft way before it became a fad. Ruth was generous with her means, and her time and talents, especially volunteer work up to a few days before her death.
Ruth met Lawrence Weimer, a Captain in the Air Force, at church in San Jose. They married in March 1961 and were sealed in the Oakland Temple in August 1969. The family moved to Travis Air Force Base in 1961. While honeymooning in Carmel, they bought the property in the Carmel Highlands, intending to make it their retirement home. During Larry’s deployment to the Vietnam War, Ruth and the girls moved to the Highlands in 1963-1964. Larry retired from the Air Force in 1970. They moved to the Carmel Highlands permanently in 1975.
Ruth is survived by her daughters, Pamela Biesk (Edward) and Debra Bates, 13 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry Weimer, and her step-daughter Sherry Taylor (Howard).
