Robert (Bob) Prince was born March 16, 1935, in Chicago, IL, to Thomas and Marie (née Lux), the fourth of six children. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, surrounded by his family at CHOMP.
Bob is survived by his wife and best friend of 59 years, Maria, and his beloved children: Katya (Ken), Crista (Dave), Gina (Reggie), and Joshua. He was a proud Opa to his grandchildren: Abbie, Ella, Cassius, and Toussaint. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Dick, Chuck, Jim, Tom, and Mary.
Education and learning were lifelong passions of Bob’s. With a PhD in Special Education, he started his career as an educator of young deaf students. After several years, he returned to school to study computer programming. The family moved to Pacific Grove in 1978 and for the rest of his working career Bob worked as a programmer and data analyst on the Monterey Peninsula. Never content to stop learning, he took classes at MPC and Chapman to continue developing his computer skills while taking a sailing lesson or two.
After retiring, he and Maria traveled the world, often with the MPC Gentrain program. Bob was once again learning—this time about other cultures, languages, and delicious foods. Gentrain was both a source of amazing trips and new friendships.
Another passion of Bob’s was singing. As a child he sang with the Paulist choir in Chicago, his Army service included travel with the Army choir, and on the Peninsula he sang with St. Angela Merici Church choir and I Cantori de Carmel.
Family was important to Bob – he passionately supported all his children’s and grandchildren’s interests and was immensely proud of all of them. Bob’s love of family extended to his siblings and their children and grandchildren. He took pleasure in attending their events and sending birthday cards to everyone.
