Carmel ~ Pat, born September 20, 1920, in Hayward, California, died peaceafully at her home on October 2, 2012. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph and her grandson, Miles McEldowney, and is survived by her loving family; son, Brian (Tracey) of Salinas and daughter, Kate (Paul) Strudwick of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, and grandchildren, Melinda and Neal McEldowney and Emily Franklin and her niece, C. J. Hutchinson of Aptos.
A graduate of UC Berkeley (1941), Pat was secretary to the finance director of the City of Monterey for ten years. She was a 60-year member of All Saints Episcopal Church, Carmel, where she served on the Vestry, was head of both the altar guild and the Episcopal Church Women and was secretary. Pat supported numerous rummage sales and social events. In 2009, she was chosen as Woman of the Year.
Pat was a member of the Monday Afternoon Club of the Monterey Peninsula for 51 years. For many years, she was very active in the American Association of University Women (AAUW) as well as being a member of the Cal-Berkeley Alumni Association. Pat was an enthusiastic traveler, visiting many countries around the world. She loved all of the animals for whom she cared over the years, especially her loyal dog, Lucy.
Pat's family is extremely grateful to her loving caregivers, especially Lela, Ileini, Lani and Pinga.
A service to celebrate Pat’s life will take place at All Saints Episcopal Church, Carmel, on Sunday, 7 October, at 2:00 pm followed by a reception in the church hall.
