Marianne, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula. She met Paul, her husband of 37 years, in 1975 while working together at Comshare, Inc. in New York City. They spent fourteen years in Dallas before moving to the San Francisco Bay Area and resided in Atherton for twenty years. In 2012, they moved to Pebble Beach to enjoy their retirement years together.
Marianne attended the Academy of Art College in San Francisco and was a very talented interior designer, demonstrated by the warmth she created in her own homes and the many requests she had from friends for her advice on theirs. She was devoted to bringing beauty into the lives of her family and friends.
Marianne had a big heart, especially when it came to children and animals. She volunteered at the Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford and the National Center for Equine Facilitated Therapy in Woodside, California.
Marianne and Paul loved travelling together and visited many parts of the US and thirty countries around the world. They enjoyed entertaining and hosted many memorable parties and events at their homes. Marianne was also a member of the Nine-Holers group at Sharon Heights Golf & Country Club where she developed some very close friendships. They are active parishioners at the Carmel Mission and members of Monterey Peninsula Country Club.
Marianne is survived by her husband, Paul; her siblings, Walter (Mary Ann) Schmitt, Annette (Duane) Ziege, and Robert (Mary) Schmitt; her sister-in-law, Nancy Schmitt and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Caroline Schmitt; her brother, Jerry Schmitt; and her sister, Lorraine Vertal.
A time to join together to remember Marianne will take place at The Paul Mortuary Chapel on Thursday, October 12, beginning at 4:00pm concluding with a recitation of the rosary at 6:00pm. A Celebration of Life Mass will take place at the Carmel Mission Basilica the following morning, October 13, at 10:00am. All are invited to attend.
