Kathleen (Kathy) Anderson Davis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away at home on July 4, 2018, after a short illness. She was born in Spokane, Washington on October 25, 1934 to Bernard Anderson and Ethel Mellon Anderson. Kathy was raised in the Pacific Northwest and attended college at Oregon State University.
In 1954, while on summer break in Washington D.C., she met her future husband, G. Gervaise (Gerry) Davis. In 1955, Gerry was serving in the U.S. Army and stationed in Germany. At age 21, alone Kathy traveled by ship to Germany. They were married on June 22, 1955 in Hanau, Germany.
Upon return to the U.S. in 1956, Kathy and Gerry lived in Alexandria, Virginia. Kathy worked at the Pentagon and Gerry attended Georgetown Law School. In 1957 their daughter, Virginia was born. Kathy and Gerry then moved to Southern California where daughter Cynthia was born in 1959. They later moved to the Monterey Peninsula to make their permanent home in 1960, where they added daughters Susan (1962) and Shauna (1965) to their family.
Kathy was very involved in local charities and politics. She was an active member of the Junior League and the League of Women Voters. She served terms on the Monterey County Juvenile Justice Commission, the Monterey County Grand Jury and volunteered for many non-profit organizations, supporting and improving the lives of others. She was a wonderful caretaker, peacemaker and cheerleader to all.
Kathy enjoyed European travel with Gerry and other family members. A trip to France got them interested in wine and in 1978, she and Gerry opened the Firehouse Wine Bar and Restaurant in the old Monterey Firehouse on Calle Principal in downtown Monterey, where she served as the bookkeeper. She also enjoyed traveling to and sharing their townhome in Yountville, Napa Valley, California.
Her daughters will always remember her as ‘The Best Mom in the World.’ She led by example and when dealing with conflict, she taught her children to ‘rise above.’ Her loving presence, calming influence and positive energy will be greatly missed.
Her husband of 63 years, Gerry, preceded her in death in April of 2018. She is survived by two brothers, Larry (Ruth) Anderson of Ohio and James (Beatrice) Anderson of Maryland. Also, by her daughters, Virginia Davis (Kim Kelley) of Prunedale, Cynthia Davis of Monterey, Susan Davis of Mission Viejo, CA and Shauna Davis (Tim Garner) of Monterey; grandchildren Tarrah, Kelly, Lauren, Riley, Makenna and Griffin.
A private family service honoring her life will be held in the near future.
Memorial donations may be made to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula’s Ohana Behavioral Healthcare Center for Children and Adolescents or a charity of the Donor’s choice.
