June 23, 1934 - November 16, 2022.
Our beautiful, loving, and thoughtful mother has been embraced by Jesus, her husband, daughter and all her loved ones that have preceded her. Joan was a devoted mother. Her family was the most precious part of her life and we are thankful she had been blessed with a long life.
Joan was a true coal miner’s daughter, Born in Harlan County, Kentucky to Ora and Nellie McKeehan. They and her late sister Linda Belle Tate moved to Seaside in 1948 where she graduated from Monterey High School in June 1951. She married her high school sweetheart Marshall Reeves on June 16, 1951. They were married for 65 years. She was a 62-year resident of Marina. During high school, Joan worked as a hostess at the State and Regency theaters on Alvarado and often shared stories of her unique experiences.
Mom and Dad had four children, the eldest Steven (Clover), followed by Ronald, Timothy (Karen) and Pamela Lynn. In the 1950s, Mom often taught Sunday School while Dad preached and founded new Baptist congregations. While Dad was leading the Monterey police parking division, Mom managed the El Rancho Mobile Homes Park and Center in Marina from 1960 to 2011. We all helped her with the “chores” of course and there were plenty of jobs to do. She loved to cook and was the cruise ship director of the community. She was a wonderful hostess, organizing multiple activities for the residents including holiday dinners, parties and Easter egg hunts.
After “retiring” from multiple family vacations to family in Louisiana, Ohio and Kentucky, Mom and Dad built their dream home in Hume Lake, CA, one of God’s most wonderful sanctuaries, next to Heaven where they are sharing eternity with our Savior.
Joan is survived by her three sons, five grandchildren Steven II, Mary, Ginger, Marsha and Laurel, nine great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded by her daughter, Pamela, and her husband, Marshall.
Mom will be cherished forever - the most precious person of all. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 2 at Paul’s Mortuary in Pacific Grove. Visitation begins at 10:00 am. Charitable donations in her name can be directed to the Salvation Army - Monterey Peninsula Corps 1491 Contra Costa, Seaside CA 93955.
