Hattie Magolia Williams, came to us April 14, 1930. She was born at Pocahontas Mississippi, raised at Hattiesburg Ms. Conceived to Andrew and Mariah Thomas and shared her childhood as one of 13 children. After completing high school, at the behest of her sister Carrie May Short, she moved to California residing in Pacific Grove. Hattie married Clarence Lee Williams, and although as a divorced-single woman of the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, by faith and determination raised seven children.
In her early years, Hattie worked at the canneries of Cannery Row while also working in housekeeping to support her family. She eventually retired from Asilomar Conference Grounds.
She was active as a civic leader serving her community and supporting her children within the Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl scouts, Blue Birds, YMCA, YWCA, PTA, EBONY Court, and a lifetime of service as a member of First Baptist Church of Pacific Grove, where upon her death was the longest living congregational member. Outside of her family, her interests were the welfare and care of her friends and those close to her.
Hattie is preceded in death by her parents Andrew and Mariah Thomas, husband Clarence Williams, Sr., brothers Jesse, Theldner, Andrew, Proxiville and Theo; sisters, Minnie, Angie del, Leola, Carrie, Fannie, and Bonnie, two sons, Clarence Williams Jr. and Andrew Williams, two daughters Tami and Vanessa Williams, two grandsons, Kevin Corwin and Try Lee Mize. She is survived by her sister Johnniel (Johnnie Higgins) of Texas, three children, Dirrick Williams of Monterey, Margie Williams of San Leandro, and Patricia Mize of South Carolina, four Grandsons, two granddaughters, six great granddaughters, three great grandsons, one great-great-grand-daughter, and a score of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Her enduring spirit, kind hands, angelic voice, and generous heart will be missed by all who knew her. Hattie’s unwavering faith and devoted life to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is an example of the magnitude of the love of God, and our assurance of life ever after.
