Harry William Hocker passed away Friday August 12th, 2011, succumbing to cancer. He was born in Jersey Shore Pennsylvania to Harry August and Effie May Hocker April 22, 1915. His family moved to Van Nuys, California when he was four. He attended Van Nuys High School where he played football, pole vaulted and met his wife to be, Mary Ellen Bishop. They were married in 1936 and remained husband and wife until her death in 2004. He is survived by his two sons Lee and Bill Hocker.
In his 96 years he was a welder for McDonald-Douglas during WW2, a manager of a metal fabrication factory, and finally owner of Hocker Manufacturing Co. in Van Nuys which produced many items for Disney Land and Disney World. He was notable for his two avocations of antique car restoration and lawn bowling. While restoring three Model A Fords he became president of the Model A Ford Club of America. His restoration of a 1922 Packard touring car won best in class (100 points) in the Pebble Beach Concourse de Elegance. After moving to Carmel, California in 1974 he became an avid lawn bowler and honorary member of the Del Masa Lawn Bowling Club in Carmel.
He will be remembered by his friends and neighbors as someone who could and would do most any repair, maintenance, or remodel around the house. He was passionate about perfection in all things he did. He will be remembered by his sons as a kind, gentle, and loving father and husband who was their major role model and work ethic inspiration.
