Monterey CA
May 8, 1928 – September 8, 2022
George James Wilson Jr., age 94 passed into eternal life with his Lord and Savior on September 8, 2022.
George was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, dear friend, role model and mentor to everyone he met throughout his life.
On May 8, 1928, George was born in the old Pacific Grove Hospital to George J. Wilson SR and Idella Carey. His sister Elizabeth “Betty” and brother David soon followed.
Having lived in Pacific Grove, Seaside and Monterey, George was a lifelong resident of the Monterey Peninsula with just a few years away while serving in the United States Army. He was very proud of his military service, especially serving at the Presidio of San Francisco as part of the Army Honor Guard.
Following his graduation from Monterey High School, George worked as a carpenter. He soon became frustrated as a “left-handed” carpenter using “right-handed” tools and wisely switched his trade to plumbing. He attended five years of pipefitting and plumbing apprenticeship school and fast became regarded as one of the most respected plumbing contractors on the Monterey Peninsula.
A true love story began when George met Yvonne Leandro downtown Monterey at the Golden State Theater where she was working. As he told it, his life was never the same when he saw that dark haired girl with that beautiful smile. The two deeply loved and adored each other, becoming inseparable and remaining so until her death in 2018. They were married just shy of 65 years and proudly raised four sons.
Together they worked to build and operate a successful plumbing business in Pacific Grove. They later began another company in Sand City building and managing commercial properties.
George was known for his hard work ethic, honesty, passion for doing an excellent job and compassion for all people. These traits he instilled in his sons from an early age.
He wasn’t always all about work. He made plenty of time for his family, packing them and anyone else who would fit into the old Winnebago. Off he would take them to enjoy, boating, water or snow skiing, fishing, camping and exploring. After their retirement, George and Yvonne’s travels took them all over the world. Their happiest adventures were spent with family and close knit friends driving their motorhome through Canada, Mexico and the entire United States.
After 50 plus years in the plumbing industry, full retirement didn’t last long. George continued working, building and managing commercial buildings in Sand City. As the “selfappointed supervisor” he spent the day before his passing walking through his current project job site, reviewing plans and meeting with the construction crew.
George enjoyed a long and happy life. He was most proud of his wife, sons and grandchildren and cherished time he spent with them. He was blessed with many wonderful friends who became more like family to him.
On January 26, 2018 he lost the love of his life, Yvonne, whom he missed dearly.
George was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother David “Booty” Wilson.
George leaves behind his four sons: George (Patti) of Pacific Grove, CA, Greg (Nancy) of
Bend, OR, Gary (Marlies) of Pacific Grove, CA and Chris (Yoko) of Monterey CA. Nine
Grandchildren: Monique, George IV “Jamie”, Joshua, Jennifer, Heather, Gary II, Christopher, Casey, Jillian and twelve amazing Great-Grandchildren. George is also survived by his sister Elizabeth “Betty” Scheidemantel of Taft, CA.
It goes without saying that George touched many lives and not just that of his family. He was loved, admired, adored and respected by all. He is missed beyond measure.
