

Born February 18, 1921, Kansas City, Missouri, he attended public schools there and graduated from Kansas City Junior College. He had become an Eagle Scout.
A World War II vet, he enlisted and was commissioned in the US Army Transportation Corp and served as commander of several liberty ships in the European-Middle-East-African Theatre furnishing supplies to the invasion troops.
Upon discharge Bill married and moved to Jefferson City, MO to learn the retail hardware trade. In 1955 the family moved to Seaside, CA where he operated Hellman’s Hardware Store until retirement.
He derived great pleasure from his spiritual quest starting under the tutelage of Dr. Bard, a Lutheran minister from Bill’s youth. Masons was a great part of his life beginning with Demolay in Kansas City. He was a member and past master of Pacific Grove Lodge and an appointed officer of the Grand Lodge of California and an honor member of Job’s Daughters. He was an active member of Unity Church of Monterey Bay and his spiritual quest continued evidenced by his writings that were occasionally shared during Sunday services.
Bill married Jean Hellman in 1965 and she pre-deceased him in April of this year. He is survived by daughters Susan of Oak View, CA and Melissa of Anchorage, AK, step daughters, Nancy of Palo Alto and Sue of Merced, CA, seven grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held November 17, 2012 at 2pm at the Unity Church of Monterey, 601 Madison Street, Monterey. Bill’s request was that any memorial contributions be made to the Unity Church of Monterey Bay.
