Carolyn Ann Bitter

1932-2019

PACIFIC GROVE, CA

Carolyn Ann Bitter quietly and peacefully passed into the welcoming arms of the Lord on January 1, 2019. Carolyn was born on March 2, 1932 in Selma, California to Peter Ford and Ruth Elizabeth Nelson. She grew up in the house her father built and graduated from Roosevelt High School in Fresno, CA. Shortly thereafter, she married Harold Bitter and that union continued until his passing in 2018. Two sons were born to the family, Harold Richard Jr. (Rick) and Douglas Allen. The family move frequently in its early years, but ultimately settled in Pacific Grove, CA in 1962.

Carolyn was a devoted mother in raising her two children. Carolyn was never one to just sit and relax and went on to earn her Medical Assisting degree which lead to a fulfilling career in the healthcare field. Carolyn worked for many years at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and for Anthony Shaheen, MD. She continued to work until her early 80’s. Carolyn also enjoyed her years of volunteer work with many civic and health-related organizations on the Monterey Peninsula. This started when her sons were young with Little League, Boy Scouts, Breakers Club at PGHS and then progressed to organizations such as the Red Cross and Breast Care Clinic at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Carolyn was a dedicated Christian servant and Methodist. As a member of the Methodist Church in Monterey, she continually served and held many leadership positions on church boards.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Richard Bitter. She is survived by her sons, Rick (Cindy) and Douglas (Janet), four grandchildren (Rickey, Ryan, Kristen, Lacy) and four great-grandchildren (Callaghan, Ryan John, Brynn, Clara).

Carolyn loved her family. Nothing made her happier than being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will forever be loved and missed!
