Carmel ~ Carole Elise Byers Poole passed away June 6th. She was born to Laud and Rosalie “Ann” Byers on March 6, 1935 in Glendale, California. She traveled around the country while growing up, but spent most of her years in Carmel. Carole attended Sunrise Elementary School where she met her oldest friend, Carlie Daniels Short. She continued on to Carmel High School, meeting and eventually marrying her first husband, Michael Farrell.
Carole and Mike made their homes in Reno, Lanikai, Oahu, and Seattle. The move from Lanikai to Seattle was definitely the most challenging, as Carole noted they went 77 days without sun! In 1972, Carole and Mike moved to Mill Valley, California, where she raised her three daughters, Megan, Britt and Shannon.
In 1982, Carole married George “Mickey” Poole and eventually moved back “home” to Carmel in 1990. They enjoyed travelling, hosting family and friends in their welcoming home, and, together, holding spirited discussions on a variety of topics.
Carole’s life was full and punctuated with many precious loves. She grew up riding her horses on and around Jack’s Peak, and later enjoyed watching them frolic in the many pastures in the surrounding area. She doted on her beloved kitties so much that a healthy dose of sibling rivalry existed between her daughters and cats. Carole spent her time travelling with friends and family, was an active member of Carmel by-the-Sea Garden Club, and enjoyed the company of her friends, husband, daughters, and grandchildren. She loved watching her grandchildren swim in her pool, and spent countless hours with them picking flowers from her garden and lemons from her beautiful trees.
Carole is survived by her husband, Mickey Poole of Carmel; daughters, Bridget (Charles Belden) of Tustin, Shannon (Bill Lueken ) of Pacific Grove, Ellen (Newlin Rankin) of San Anselmo, Cynthia (Michael Gallivan) of San Juan Capistrano, and son, Amos Poole (Susie) of Chicago. She also leaves behind cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. Carole was preceded in death by her daughter, Megan, in 1995 and ex-husband Mike in 1984.
The memory of Carole’s love, kindness, and ability to make anyone instantly fall into fits of laughter will be with us always.
A service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carmel by-the-Sea Garden Club, PO Box 1972, Carmel, CA, 93921 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
