Died December 3, 2012 at Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula, Monterey, California
He was born January 14, 1925 in New Haven, CT, lived in Cleveland, Ohio graduating from Wist Technical High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served with the C.B’s and Marines in the South Pacific 1943-46. After World War II, he graduated from Bowling Green State University (1950) and Western Reserve University School of Medicine (1953). Internship and Residency Training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology was obtained at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, MO and University Hospitals in Cleveland (1953-1957). He became Board Certified in Internal Medicine and a Fellow in American College of Physicians. His professional practice was in Consultative Medicine and Cardiology in Lima, Ohio (1957-1984) and included affiliation with Lima Memorial Health Care Systems and St. Rita’s Medical Center, served as Chief of Medicine at both institutions; President of Lima and Allen County Medical Association and Allen County Heart Association. He was a member of Market Street Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder.
In 1985 he became Medical Director of Crown equipment Corporation and became a Fellow in the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. He retired in 1992.
He is survived by his loving wife—Mary Dicke Reed—married 1951 who he met on a blind date in New Bremen, Ohio. They are blessed with two children Laura K. Reed of Harper Woods, MI and Jeffrey C. Reed (Janine) of Menlo Park, CA and three grandchildren Megan and Katherine Reed of Menlo Park and Anton Reed Mikolowski of Harper Woods.
Family vacations and fishing in the wilderness of Canada were always a great pleasure for him.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 1:00pm at the St. Paul United Church of Christ, New Bremen, OH. A viewing will be held prior to the service. Internment in Lock Two Cemetery in New Bremen, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or a charity of personal choice.
