Pedro was born in Villa Jimenez, Michoacán to his beloved parents named Concepcion Perez and Refugio Gutierrez. He went to grade school in Zipimeo and is where he met his beloved wife Erlinda Espino. He was 17 years old, she was only 13. They met while she was washing clothes in the river as he passed by and caught her attention. Two weeks later they married and started their family of 12 children.
From Zipimeo they moved to Mexico City, Distrito Federal. He worked in construction for many years. He built his first house in “La Calavera,” Mexico City. In between construction jobs, he signed up to work as a brazero. To improve his chances of being selected to work in the U.S., he filed his papers using a different date of birth to be younger. The tactic worked and he was hired to work in Mississippi, United States picking cotton alongside German prisoners of war. Afterwards he moved from state to state following the agricultural labor in the Midwest while visiting his wife and children in Mexico in between the farming seasons.
After living in Mexico for many years, Pedro and his family migrated to Los Angeles. He couldn’t find a job, so they moved to Somis where he found work as a rancher. He fulfilled the American dream and purchased his first home on Raemere Street in Camarillo. He continued to work at the ranch until he retired at the age of 62.
He sold his house in Camarillo and moved to Morelia, Michoacán Mexico. He purchased a piece of land and with the help of his wife, son Rudy, daughter Magos, built his last home. In 2010, his eldest daughter passed away and four months later, his beloved wife passed away too. A year after their passing, he moved back to the U.S. to live with his daughter Rosita.
The years that followed he was visited by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to music at family events, watching boxing fights, praying for the family and increasing his devotion to the Virgen de Guadalupe. Pedro passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family.
