Juanita was 14 years old when her family moved to Los Angeles, CA. She attended Belmont High School in Los Angeles. Juanita married the love of her life, James Ross Jr on June 30, 1946. They enjoyed almost 74 years of marriage. Six children were born to their union.
Juanita worked 24 years, in the grocery industry. She was staunch advocate for employee rights and was member of United Food and Commercial Works Union. She was a Union Steward and Executive Board Member for former Local 899 and Local 1036 for over 10 years . She retired from Vons in 1991.
Juanita was a member of Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church where she and James had served as RCIA and Eucharistic Ministers for over 10 years. Juanita demonstrated her Christian faith in all that she did. She had a kind loving heart and gave generously to whomever was in need. Juanita knew no stranger. She was a gracious host who welcomed all into her home where she always provided love, warm hugs, good food and when needed, a place to stay. In her neighborhood, Juanita was the caring neighbor everyone could always count on for whatever they needed and to all the kids on the block, she was Grammy. She was also a cherished Godmother who provided continuous love and support to her godchildren and their families. Juanita was immensely proud of her 6 children, 12, grandchildren and 5, great-grandchildren. Juanita found no greater joy than spending time with her family, birthday & holidays, were very special for her. She found great pleasure in creating memories for those she loved.
Juanita is survived by her 4 daughters, Darlene Ross, Debra Risper-Simpson, Maria Christine, Shelly Luke( Darrell), 10 grandchildren, and 5 great- grandchildren.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband James in April, her sons James Ross III, Michael W. Ross grandchildren, Mary Theresa Ross, & James Ross IV.
