He was born June 10th 1942 in Mexico. He spent his childhood in Grand Island, Nebraska. He attended Omaha Tech High School, and joined the military December 10, 1959, at the age of 17. He served our country for over 20 years and served in the Vietnam War. Once he retired, he worked for Litton overseas in Saudi Arabia. When he decided to come home, he worked for Public Works at the CBC base for 17years before he retired. He then went to establish AMVETS Post 5 in Oxnard, along with his Veteran friends. During his service, he received many awards for his accomplishments. He was a very loving grandfather, spending time at his grandchildren's soccer, football, and baseball games. He went to cheer them on, tell the ref's/ump's that they couldn't see, and his grandson's needed to have the ball. Everyone loved grandpa at the games, even other parents. He attended South Coast Fellowship and loved sharing the gospel with others. He loved to go out to eat with or without his family. John was a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, the Nebraska Corn Huskers, and the Patriots. He liked to collect watches, clocks, and light houses. He also enjoyed spending time with his veteran buddies.
He is survived by his loving wife Rebecca Alice Montoya Cantu, daughters Elizabeth Cantu Lopez (Robert), Carolina Cantu, Emily Cantu, Christina Cantu; sons John Cantu, Dana Cantu. Brother Dana Cantu (Becky) Stepchildren Lydia Ovalle, Celina Quezada, Raul Telles, Ricardo Telles, Juan Telles Jr.
