Armando "Coach" Garcia, 81, died Sunday, May 10, 2015 comfortably and peacefully in his home. He leaves his wife of 59 years, Vera (Trejo) Garcia; his oldest son, Peter Garcia; his middle son, Jaime Garcia and wife Julie; his youngest son Frank Garcia and wife Elaine. Armando had many roles throughout his life, he was a husband and father as well as a grandfather to eleven grandchildren: Veronica Montes; Theresa Newman; Vanessa Arevalo; Renina Garcia; Jessica Garcia; Kahlo Benavidez; Roberto Benavidez; Camila Garcia; Richie Lopez; Raymond Lopez; and Rayleen Lopez. He was a great grandfather to six children; Merissa, Trinitie, Jaime, Isabelle, Cali, and Elijah. A known and respected member to the Oxnard City Parks and Recreation and also a friendly face seen employed for many years with Oxnard School District. Born and raised in Oxnard, the son of Manuel Garcia and Josephine Contreras, he was a long time resident of Oxnard. Mr. Garcia had 7 siblings, and is survived by 3 sisters, Mary Lou, Clara, and Delores. After graduating from Oxnard High School, he attended Ventura Community College in which he earned an associate's degree. While attending Ventura College he met his future wife, Vera Trejo. In 1954, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he was a Petty Officer, First Class. In 1956 he ventured to San Diego, Ca and married the love of his life, Vera, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Old Town San Diego. After serving with the Navy, Mr. Garcia relocated his family back to Oxnard. While in Oxnard he had many jobs but his passion and dedication laid in the hands of the youth of the city. He spent endless amounts of hours coaching children in the community. In later years he was appointed the Commissioner of Parks and Recreation. Mr. Garcia took pride in his love for his family and being an avid Celtics fan.The Garcia family will receive family and friends at Conrad Carroll Mortuary, 401 W. Channel Isl. Blvd. Oxnard, CA., 805-487-4911 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00pm on Monday, May 18, 2015. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Santa Clara Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 10:00am. Mr. Garcia will be laid to rest at Santa Clara Catholic Cemetery, Oxnard., concluding with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
