Bob entered the Air Force February 9, 1956, and, after basic training, was stationed in Okinawa Japan. He was honorably discharged February 8, 1960. He married Lucy Marie Collie on November 3, 1962. In his early years of marriage, he was an engineer for Bendix Field Engineering Corporation and his career took him to Ethiopia, Vietnam, and The Philippines. Upon return to the United States, the couple lived in Tulsa, OK; Baltimore, MD; Hollywood, MD; and Chesapeake, VA. Bob retired in 1993 to Ocala, FL after 32 years with Bendix Field Engineering Corporation as an assistant director. Bob was a loving father and grandfather “Papa” and doted on his grandchildren. Bob loved working with his hands and in the 1980’s he built his own 24-foot sailboat. He loved to take his family out on the water to go fishing in the Patuxent River in southern Maryland. Bob was, also, an avid golfer. When he wasn’t on the golf course, he ran the men’s tournaments at his local golf course and worked, and later, owned his own golf shop.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Lucy Marie Hancock; parents Julian and Catherine; and brother Julian and was survived by his son Todd (Jill) Hancock of Oviedo, FL; 2 grandchildren, Alexis and Tyler and sister Alma Barber of St. Augustine, FL.
A private interment will be held at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL on Tuesday October 3, 2023 at 11:00 am.
