The Honorable Michael James Calabro, 67, of Orlando, FL was born in Washington, PA on August 21, 1951 and passed away peacefully on December 14, 2018 at Florida Hospital in Orlando, surrounded by his family.
He was predeceased by his parents Armenio and Tillie (nee Skowronski) Calabro of Washington, PA. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Debra (nee Nocery) Calabro whom he married on December 15, 1973 at Saint Mary Star of the Sea in New London, CT. Also survived by his children Niccolo and (Eryn) Calabro of Tallahassee and Gina Calabro-Johnson of So. Weymouth, MA. As well as one brother Richard D. Michael attended public schools in Washington, PA and graduated from Trinity High School in 1969. After graduation he went to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT and graduated in 1973. Following his service in the U. S. Coast Guard, Michael retired with an honorable discharge with a rank of Lieutenant (LT) in 1979. He went on to attend Duquesne Law School graduating in 1981, at which time the family moved to Massachusetts where he worked as an attorney for Flanagan and Hunter P.C. in Boston. He was a civil litigator for over 30 years with an emphasis on Admiralty and Maritime Law. He also volunteered for numerous organizations both professionally and for his family’s activities. In 2005, Michael and his wife moved to Jacksonville, FL where they had many close friends. Eventually in 2012 they relocated to Orlando, FL where he was employed as an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) in the Social Security Administration.
Throughout his professional career as Attorney and a Judge many times people would tell me they thought of him as a Father. People would think they were the first to say this, but they weren’t, he just made them feel as though they were. He loved giving people advice as if they were family. As a dear friend put it, Mike was one the most unassuming, kind and gentle people that she had ever met. This is how Mike lived his life as a Christian.
A special thank you all who donated their leave to help us out at this most difficult time, he was truly touched by the cards, texts, prayers and phone calls you sent his way. I know he will be missed by many.
We welcome all friends and loved ones to join us for a Celebration of Life for Michael, to be held at National Cremation & Burial Society, 7565 Red Bug Lake Rd, Oviedo, FL 32765 from 1 to 5 pm on January 12, 2019.
