Maria Elena Saavedra of Orlando, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019. She was born January 26, 1925 in Havana, Cuba. She arrived in Miami in 1961, having escaped the oppressive regime of Castro. She was an accomplished writer and journalist, receiving many awards during her distinguished career.
She is survived by her daughter, Maria Posada (Raymond Necio); two granddaughters, Patricia Rush (Jason) and Christina Sahr (Rodney) and four great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 20 2019 at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Oviedo chapel. Inurnment will be in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Miami.
