On December 23, 1939, Lillian married her husband Douglas. They settled in the small town of Oviedo to begin a family and daughters, Melanie and Pat, were born a few years afterward. In 1957, the family built a home on Lake Hayes where Lillian continued to live independently until recently. She raised her family and enjoyed being a prominent member of the Oviedo community. Lillian worked for A. Duda & Sons in Oviedo, and following retirement, she earned her real estate license and became a broker where she practiced in the Oviedo area for many years. At election time, Lillian could often be found volunteering at various polling sites in the county.
Lillian will be remembered as a loving mother, cherished grandmother, treasured great-grandmother, and adored great-great-grandmother. She was fondly nicknamed “Ninnie” by those who loved her most. Her joy was being surrounded by family, and she embraced every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Ninnie enjoyed playing pat-a-cake, dress-up, making “mud” pies, fishing, and even catching grasshoppers with each generation of youngsters.
An accomplished seamstress, Lillian could often be found in her back bedroom sewing a prom dress from patterns or simply tailoring an item of clothing. She also loved gardening and spent many hours in her yard lovingly caring for her staghorn ferns, lilies and orchids. She was renowned for her stubbornness as evidenced by her insistence on living independently at the age of 97. She loved to visit and catch up on all that was going on in the lives of her loved ones. Those tender conversations will be greatly missed by all.
Lillian loved the Lord with all her heart and was blessed to live a very long and happy life. She is now rejoicing having completed her journey and been told “well done good and faithful servant” by Him whom she dearly loved.
