COL. Lee R. Barnes Jr. US Army (Ret.)

He was born in Holton, Kansas on December 16th, 1950 to Lee Roy and Christina Barnes. Lee received a Bachelor of Science from The US Military Academy at West Point, his MMAS from CGSC, and graduated from the Air War College.

He was married to Ann L. Barnes on August 23rd, 1975, in Fort Carson, Colorado.

Lee served in the US Army for 25 years retiring as a Colonel. He also had career with Northrop Grumman for 15 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, The Kansas Kickapoo Tribe, Military Academy Association of Graduates, VFW Post 10139, A.H.O.L.T. and served as Chairman of the Camaraderie Foundation. He had a passion for his wife, family, grandkids, fishing, carpentry, golf, charity and physical work. He was a Kansas City Chiefs fan and also an avid fan of science fiction; especially Star Trek.

He is survived by his wife, Ann, of 44 years; daughter Jessica, son Christopher (Luba); grandchildren Alexcis, Donnie, and Sasha; brother Brian Bartholomew (Carolyn); and sisters Marsha Jim, Denise Amos, DeeAnn Farnan (Patrick), and Leah Rector (Joe), as well as many aunts, nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his younger brother, Bruce and nephews Colby, Joshua and Finn.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m.-8 p.m., Sunday, November 3rd, 2019, at Baldwin Fairchild, 501 East Mitchell Hammock Road, Oviedo, FL.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 4th, 2019, at First United Methodist Church, 263 King Street, Oviedo, FL. Reception will follow.

Burial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, November 4th, at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US-1, Mims, FL.

BIOGRAPHY

Lee Barnes joined the Army as an Armor Cavalry Second Lieutenant upon graduation from West Point in 1972; he retired at the rank of Colonel, in 1997. His service included duty stations in Korea, Germany and United States. He served as a tank Platoon Leader, Headquarters Company Commander, Armored Cavalry Troop Commander, and Tank Battalion Commander (concurrently serving as the Tank Regiment Commander for the Opposing Forces at the National Training Center). His staff time included battalion personnel (S1and Adjutant), logistics (S4) and operations, planning, and training (Army National Guard Advisor, Battalion XO, Brigade S3 and XO, and Division G3). His final posting was as the Chief of the Advanced Concept Office for Army Forces Command. Lee joined Mystech Associates, which joined Northrop Grumman Corporation through a series of mergers. Lee served as Subject Matter Expert, Business Area Manager, Department Director, National Account Manager, Business Development Manager, and finally, as the Corporate Lead Executive, Orlando, retiring in 2012. After retirement, he also served as a consultant for ProActive Technology.

Lee chose to remain RETIRED, except for his volunteer activities, fishing, golfing and grand parenting.

Lee initially volunteered in 2011, to help with the Camaraderie Foundation annual golf tournament, “Pars and Stripes Forever”. He was elected to the board of directors in January, 2013. He was elected as Programs Director in 2015, elected Vice Chair of the Board in 2017, as Chair in Jan 2018, and in Jan 2019, re-elected as Chair for an additional one-year term.
