Joan T. Ballard, 91, of Orlando, died at her residence on Thursday, July 1, 2021. Joan was born in Roselle Park, New Jersey and later, with her family, settled in the Washington DC area. She attended the University of Maryland where she met and married Richard Ballard. Joan supported Richard’s work with the State Department and made a wonderful, loving home for their three children when they lived in Caracas, Venezuela; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Jakarta, Indonesia and finally, Bonn, Germany where Richard retired in 1985. During those years, Joan and Richard mentored Junior Foreign Service personnel and retired to Central Florida in 1989. Joan will be missed for her honesty, creativity and kindness. Joan is survived by her daughter, Cathleen Hadley and husband Roger; her son James Ballard and wife Lisa; her four cherished grandchildren; her five adored great-grandchildren and her sister, Marie Lawall. She was predeceased by Richard, her beloved husband of 64 years and her youngest son, Joseph Ballard. Joan will be laid to rest at a later date beside her husband and son in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Oviedo. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
