Good Afternoon,

I don't know if you remember me.  I relieved Jim as the Officer in Charge of PSD Brawdy, Wales in 84 shortly before he transferred to London,  United Kingdom as the Executive Officer of PSA UK/NOREUR.  

Jim was just an outstanding Naval Officer.   He was a dynamic leader who was able to achieve goals and objectives while maintaining high morale of the personnel reporting to him.  More important, he was a good person who treated all with respect and dignity.  

Dear Mayo Family,

I served with "CWO2 Mayo" onboard USS NIMITZ from 1976-1978 during which time he was X-1 Division Ship's Clerk.
My best friend Monte Bailey, with whom I entered the Navy, worked directly for him. 

I was a lowly Seaman Apprentice in the X-2 Division Admin Office. My path would cross with "Mr. Mayo" every moring when he would come down to the office for the "morning meeting."

I have fond memories of my time with Jim Mayo and know you do to. Those memories along with God's grace will sustain you as you grieve.

Nelda, Michelle, and Jay,
You have my sympathy and condolences.  I am sorry that he is already gone.  You have lost a husband, father, and grandfather.  I have lost a good friend.  Jim has been a great person to work with me at the Orange County Jail @ 33rd Street.  I could depend on him while working @ the jail and I could depend on him helping me do the cooking once a month for the Methodist Men.  We enjoyed time together talking about many things.  He loved to garden and that was one of the things that I love to do. His birthday was on the same day as mine.  Take care of yourselves!  Jim will remain on my mind forever.  May he Rest in Peace forever!

Nelda, Michelle & Jay, so sorry to hear about Jim.  I will miss his towering hug as you use to come into our restaurant for many years.  We have great memories and I know you're not going to believe this, but I still have some of Christmas letters he composed.  Love you.
