Florence Rendulic, 90, was welcomed into her heavenly home on March 12, 2012. She was born Florence Mae Long on June 16, 1921, along with her twin brother Forrest, in Spokane, Washington, to Edgar and Ida Mae Long. The family eventually relocated to Ventura, California, where Florence and Forrest graduated from high school. As a young adult, Florence taught piano and later worked as a secretary for the Coastal Lemon Company in Ventura. She moved to Orlando in 1956 and always referred to herself as a “transplanted Westerner” who loved living in Florida. In 1967, right after Florida Technological University (now UCF) was founded, Florence was one of the first employees hired by the University. She began as a secretary for the Physical Plant Department and became administrative assistant to the dean of UCF’s College of Business Administration. She retired in 1982.
A deeply spiritual woman, she was a long-time member of University Carillon United Methodist Church in Oviedo. “Miss Florence” volunteered for many years in the church office and for the preschool, and was happiest when she was surrounded by little children. If she wasn’t at her church, you would find her reading, watching DVDs, or working on preschool crafts at home. She loved books, animals, music, and playing the piano on Sunday mornings for her fellow residents at The Tremont.
Florence (Nana, Auntie Florence, Aunt Flobaby) was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, her twin brother Forrest, and older brother Norman. She is survived by her son, Jim Jones (Faith) of Sanford, daughter, Jackie Gibson (Richard) of Oviedo, and grandson, Gary Gibson (junior at UCF), as well as her beloved niece, Barb Long, of Big Bear Lake, California.
A gather of friends will be held on Friday, March 16, 2012 from 4pm – 7pm with services beginning at 5pm at the National Cremation & Burial Society, located at 7565 Red Bug Lake Road, Oviedo, FL 32765.
