Diane Goodwin Burkhart went to Heaven on Friday, October 14, 2022, in Orlando, FL. Mrs. Burkhart was born August 5, 1933, in Sterling CO, daughter of the late Daniel Goodwin and Esther Sharman Goodwin. She was raised in Sterling, CO, until the age of 16, when her family moved to Bell CA. She graduated from Bell High School with the Class of 1950. From there she went onto the University of Southern CA, receiving both a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts, (1955), and a Master’s of Fine Arts, (1959). After working for USC in public relations, she followed her dream and moved to the Washington, D.C. area, (1966). Mrs. Burkhart was employed by the Federal Government from that time until 1977, working as an administrative assistant for one senator, two representatives, and also for the Federal Labor Relations Council. Diane married the love of her life, Charles Henry Burkhart, on December 11, 1971. They lived in Cheverly MD until 1989, before moving to Milford DE after her husband’s retirement. While living in the metro DC area, Diane especially enjoyed giving tours of the U.S. Capitol Building, both professionally and to family and friends. In her retirement years in Milford, she cared well for her parents, enjoyed gardening, remodeling and travel throughout this great country and Canada. Mrs. Burkhart volunteered with Milford DE’s Marine Corps League Auxiliary, leading a Toys for Tots drive for many years before and after her husband passed in 2001. Mrs. Burkhart's love of the Lord was evident, most especially with her family whom she embraced with great love. In addition to her beloved husband Charles, and her parents, Mrs. Burkhart was preceded in death by her aunts and uncles Ray and Catherine Goodwin, Irma and Clyde Walraven, Irene McCarthy, Ray and Lucille Sharman, Lester and Dixie Sharman, and Billie Smith; her parents-in-law, Henry Clarence Burkhart, Olive Watson Shillig; brothers-in-law Henry Clarence Burkhart, Jr., Joseph Burkhart and his wife, Sandra, and Charles Marek. She is survived by her beloved step-children, Charles W. ( Leigh) Burkhart of Titusville, FL; Mary Lynn (James) Salem of Sunrise, FL, and RuthAnn (David) Harrell, Sr. of Oviedo, FL, grandson, Matthew Traver, granddaughters Jennifer Salem of Orlando, and Beth Hansen, of Weston, FL; , grandson, David, Harrell Jr., (Brenna) of Lake Worth FL, granddaughter Amanda Muse, (Derek) of Winter Springs, FL, granddaughter Alexis Nuwayhid, (Jason), of Crystal River, FL; five great grandchildren; dearly loved cousins in Southern California, Harold McCarthy, Jr., (Julie), Mary Elizabeth Bernard (Glenn), Catherine Payne, (Richard); brothers-in-law Thomas (Jeanne) Burkhart of Marysville, OH, William (Bill) (Barbara) Burkhart of Galion, OH, James (Jim) (Rose) Burkhart of Wooster, OH and Ernest (Ernie) (Linda) Burkhart of Jacksonville, FL; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Marek of Crestline OH, Gladys Burkhart Henderson of Lakeland, FL, Catherine (Cathy) Forman of Lakeland, FL, Evelyn (Evy) Buchanan of Ashland, OH, Teresa (Jane) (Thomas) Fisher of Lakeland, FL, and Irene (Renie) Batory of Mansfield, OH,; many nephews, great nephews, nieces and great nieces. A service will be held at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home in Oviedo, FL. Burial will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, DE.
Please join us for a time of visitation from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M at Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home 501 E. Mitchell Hammock Road, Oviedo FL, 32765. At 2:00 P.M. there will be a funeral service followed by a reception at 3:00 P.M.
