Audrey M. Crawford was born on February 8, 1931, in Goldsboro, North Carolina. From a young age she began working as a cosmetic beauty advisor at Belk Department Store in Charlotte, NC. There she met her beloved husband Ken, and they were married on July 13, 1947. From then on, she supported her husband's military career for 23 years, traveling worldwide with their three young children, actively contributing as a member of the United States Air Force. Following her husband’s retirement from MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL in March 1968. Audrey and Ken relocated to Sarasota. She resumed her career as a cosmetic beauty advisor and manager while enjoying leisure activities such as golfing and boating with friends. As they approached retirement age, they chose to relocate to Winter Springs, FL to be closer to their family.
Audrey was an esteemed and adored member of her family distinguished by her charming sense of humor, exceptional southern cooking, and unwavering commitment to her husband during their 72 year marriage and beyond. She also loved and cherished many dachshunds throughout her lifetime including Duke, Snickers, and Rose Mimi. Audrey was a passionate golfer and actively participated in the Women's Golf Leagues at Misawa Air Force Base in Misawa, Japan, Calusa Lakes Golf Club in Sarasota, FL (in which she achieved an impressive hole-in-one during her time on the course), and Tuscawilla Country Club in Winter Springs, FL.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Crawford and son Kenneth Martin Crawford Jr. She is survived by her son Keith M. Crawford (wife Sally Crawford), daughter Tammy Lennox (husband Robert Lennox), grandchildren Kerri Brooks (husband Andy Brooks), Ken Crawford (wife Jean Crawford), and Ellie Weinbel (fiancé Ryan McGuire), great-grandchildren Anna Laica (husband Jordan Laica), David Brooks, Clinton Crawford, and Michaela Crawford, great-great-grandson Andrew C. Laica, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her final resting place will be at The Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nemours Children Health to support the Schott Family Endowment for Pediatric Rheumatology Advancement. This will help children and their families cope with the challenges associated with managing juvenile arthritis and other pediatric rheumatology diseases.
