Shirley “Joan” Koopman, 84, of Overland Park, Kansas, formerly of Pittsburg, Kansas passed away on May 6, 2021. Joan was born July 3, 1936, to Roy and Della Slaughter in Pittsburg, Kansas. She was a cosmetologist and had her own shop. She was a member of Santa Fe Wheelers (a square dancing club) for 10 years. She loved antiquing, garage sailing, visiting with family and friends. She loved spending time with her friends, Marg Whitney and Marylin Howard, and her church. She helped her daughter, Julie, raise Michael Davila, like a grandson.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; son, Vincent; daughter, Julie; brother, Lloyd and his wife, Betty; three sisters, Lavern Kemp and her husband, Kenny, Joy McClellan and her husband, Kenny, and Patricia Baclesse; and sister-in-law, Sharon Slaughter.
She is survived by brothers, Lonny Slaughter and wife, Christine, Tommy Slaughter and wife, Mary, and Lewie Slaughter; brother-in-law, Dale Baclesse; and many nieces and nephews.
Joan’s visitation will begin at 1pm, followed by a funeral service at 2pm, on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at McGilley & Hoge Chapel. Interment will follow in Antioch Pioneer Cemetery.
