Sharron graduated from Belleville West in 1953, where she was a drum majorette and member of the National Honor Society. She was active in fundraising for the Parent Teachers Organization for Exceptional Children (PTOEC) and in her children's school activities at St. Mary's in Belleville. Sharron and her family moved to Kansas City in 1977, where she worked for J.C. Penney Credit Service. Upon retirement, she spent time with her grandchildren and caring for her beloved son, David Wayne. She enjoyed gardening, art, music, and Kansas Jayhawk basketball. Her children will now retire her 35+ year old sweatpants and Beak ‘Em Hawk sweatshirt that she wore during March Madness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Ruth Werkmeister; her brother, James Werkmeister, and her Uncle and Aunt, Clarence and Helen (Auntie) Haymann.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Michele Cameron and Dan Rivera of Albuquerque, NM; David Wayne Junker, Karol and Tracy Shadle, Sheila and John Geiger, and Scott and Marilyn Junker, all of Overland Park, KS. Sharron is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Christopher Cameron, Travis and Lauren Cameron, Matthew and Jenna Shadle, Andrew and Dayana Geiger, Abigail Geiger, Chris and Jackie Vaughan, Hannah Vaughan, Madelyn Junker, and one great grandchild, Geneva Cameron. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Sandy Werkmeister and Jan Werkmeister, and her nieces and nephews and their children, Kris, Josh, Eliza, Neve and Flynn Collins; Brett, Kate, Megan and Ella Werkmeister; and Erica, Shane and Sydney Oliver. She is also survived by her Junker in-laws and their families.
Visitation will be Friday, January 5, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 8311 West 93rd Street, Overland Park, Kansas, 66212, with funeral mass following at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to your local Special Olympics program or any pet rescue facility in your area.
