Rosann Thoeni McGrath, 89, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025 with family at her side, at the Village at Mission Retirement Home in Prairie Village, KS. Rose was born on June 3rd, 1935 in Norborne, MO. She was united in marriage to Paul McGrath in 1957.
She is survived by her four children: Martha Blank, Greenwood Village, Colorado, Mary Jane McGrath, Overland Park, KS, Jack McGrath (Lesley), Overland Park, KS, and Jim McGrath, Prairie Village, KS; three grandchildren: Adam Blank, Portland, OR, Justin Blank, Greenwood Village, CO and Alison McGrath, Lawrence, KS; sisters Jean Faver, Starkville, MS, Sharon (Werner) Moentmann, Richmond, MO, and brother Kent (Sue) Thoeni, Leawood, KS and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul McGrath, her parents, and four of her siblings Vernon, Genevieve, Nadine, and Shirley.
She was born on June 3, 1935 to Walter and Ruth Thoeni and was raised on the family farm near Norborne, MO. Rose was a dedicated homemaker, great cook and enjoyed being with her grand kids. Rose stayed connected to her parents, the farm and the news of her childhood community. Being one of eight children, family always meant the world to her.
After graduating from Norborne High School, Rose attended William Jewell College. Later moving to Kansas City, she worked at Spencer Chemical. She met her husband Paul while living on the Country Club Plaza. She was a busy mom with 4 active kids and as they grew, Rose earned her Real Estate license and worked for Reece and Nichols for many years. She loved her work and socializing with co-workers and had a very successful real estate career.
Even with a busy work schedule, she put family first and stayed connected with her extended family. She was generous with her time and money. Rose was an amazing cook, and enjoyed entertaining and planning family gatherings. She was selfless and would do anything to support her family. She was committed to her faith and a courageous matriarch. Her grandchildren brought Rose such joy and she cherished her time with them. Rose and Paul enjoyed visiting the farm and were able to travel in their later years including a trip to visit Ireland to see the origins of the McGrath heritage.
Rosary will be on Sunday, March 23rd at 6:30 pm, followed by Visitation until 8:00 pm at St. Ann Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS 66208. Funeral Service is at 10:30 am on Monday, March 24, 2025 at St. Ann; burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Greenleaf, KS on the following day. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to the Saint Ann Catholic Church stannpv.org or the Alzheimer’s Association www.alz.org.
