Robert Ward Sloan went to be with God on January 24, 2022. He was born on July 3, 1948 in Evanston, Illinois to Charlene and Roger Sloan. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1971. Having had a deep interest in cars from an early age, Bob chose the automotive industry as his line of work, where he had a highly successful career for over 50 years. He cared about the clients he worked with and made lasting friendships with many of them. He retired from NCM in 2016.
Bob was an excellent athlete and became an outstanding skier. As a boy, he worked with his father on ski patrol in Wisconsin and continued his love for skiing while at school in Utah working as a ski instructor. Bob used this same native athletic ability in playing tennis and pickelball.
In all of Bob’s activities, whether work or recreation, his underlying drive was following and serving Jesus Christ. He was a member of Colonial Presbyterian Church and in a men’s Bible study for thirty years. He was a long-time member of the God’s Sparrows Sunday School Class and currently the Life Builders Class. He could be counted on to help when and where needed. Bob carried his spirit of service into the community by being a long-time Meals on Wheels volunteer.
Everyone who knew Bob respected his complete integrity. Just as he was outstanding at his career and hobbies, so was he stellar in his kindness. Friends and acquaintances felt free to come to him for help. Never putting himself forward, he made people feel valued and watched out for their safety. Bob is loved by his family and friends, who enjoyed his kindness, competence and wonderful wit. Surviving relatives are his wife, Jean Sloan and their daughter, Meredith McGuire Gorentz (Peter); grandchildren, William and Claire Gorentz; sister, Susan Chamberlain (Lewis); nephew, Tim Chamberlain (Michelle) and sisters-in-law, Janice Unander and Irma Klassen.
