Ornell Hugh Asleson was born on October 3, 1936, in Moorhead, MN, the son of Ordell and Viola (Olson) Asleson, and passed away on April 7, 2022. Ornell (“Hugh”) graduated from Ulen High School in 1954 and graduated from North Dakota School of Agriculture with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1960.
Hugh married Mary Ruth Houchin on May 9, 1964, and they had two daughters. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska, for 42 years, where he worked for the Army Corp of Engineers. They moved to Overland Park, Kansas, in 2007.
Hugh was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, and sense of humor. Hugh loved softball, golf, and fishing, and he and Mary loved square dancing and ballroom dancing. They loved to travel and, for many years, spent their winter months in South Texas. He was a devoted grandfather and loved to spend time with his grandchildren. And he was beloved “Uncle Hugh” to his nieces and nephews.
He was deeply loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Hugh was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, and his parents, Ordell and Viola. He is survived by his two daughters: Catherine (John) Dundon of Greenwood Village, CO, and Joni (Craig) Casey of Stilwell, KS; and four grandchildren: Hank and Amelia Dundon and Colin and Nicole Casey; brothers: Bruce (Margaret) Asleson and Mark (Sandy) Asleson; and sisters: Dianne Haugo and Lois Edwards; and many nieces and nephews.
