Mary Lou Minnerly Coburn, 93, of Overland Park, KS went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, October 13th, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 17, 1928, in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Grace and William Minnerly. Mary grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and had many wonderful childhood memories of her loving family and friends.
Mary met her husband, George Alva Coburn, in June 1957. Together, they had four children: Stephen, Linda, Gwendolyn, and Gregory. As the wife of an Army officer, Mary had the opportunity to travel to Europe, Asia, as well as much of the United States. She especially enjoyed her time in Fontainebleau, France and loved telling stories of their adventures living there. Being a Kansas City girl at heart, she moved her family back to the midwest (Overland Park, Kansas) in 1972 after her husband retired from the military.
Mary was happiest when family was around. She had a great laugh and a beautiful singing voice. Her children remember music being a big part of their childhood. She often sang old folk songs and Christian hymns she learned as a little girl, and these songs have now been lovingly passed down from her children to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary's Christian faith and love of Jesus Christ was an essential part of her entire life. Instilling the love for God in her family was her greatest desire, accomplishment and family legacy.
She is survived by her children: Stephen Coburn (Alina), Linda Coburn Ripley (Mark), Gwendolyn Coburn Williams (Curt), Gregory Coburn; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and sister, Susan Minnerly
She was preceded in death by her mother, Grace Carroll Minnerly; father, William Oran Minnerly; former husband, George Alva Coburn and brother, William George Minnerly.
Mary's visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a celebration of life service to begin at 11am on Friday, October 22, 2021 at McGilley & Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66204.
