Marilyn Louise Barcus, 84, of Shawnee, KS passed away on May 21, 2021. She was born on March 14, 1937 in Kansas City, MO and grew up in Johnson County, KS. She graduated from Shawnee Mission High School and from the University of Kansas with a degree in Physical Therapy. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority at KU and the KU Alumni Association. Marilyn worked for the McGilley & Hoge Chapel; Clinique Cosmetics; Visiting Nurses; as well as being a single mother, raising her children and running a busy household. Marilyn was a volunteer at Turn Styles and was chosen to be a Social Ambassador at Shawnee Hills Senior Living where she was a resident for many years.She loved to travel the world with friends, shopping, gardening, playing bridge, bingo and Canasta and watching KU basketball. She treasured family get-togethers and time with her grandchildren.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, brother and one son, Bradley Barcus. Survivors include her daughter, Cindy Nabors (Trey); daughter, Susie DeRosier (Brett); son, Doug Barcus (Chris); five grandchildren, Christopher Crane (Amanda), Makenzie Nabors, Makayla Stimac (finance’ Sean Price), Kyle Moyer and Zachary Barcus; one great grandson, Luca Joseph Channing Price.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 28th at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be from 11:00 am -12:00 pm at the chapel prior to the service. Burial will be at 1:00 pm, Friday at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
