John was born on June 5, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York. He worked at Regan’s Restaurant from 1966 until they closed and then he worked at Johnny Cascone’s Italian Restaurant in Overland Park. He was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary parish since 1957 and participated in the REACH program for many years. John loved music, especially classical. Though he did not read music, as a young man he could play the piano by ear. He enjoyed riding his bicycle and walking long distances. He was a friendly, hard working man, who loved people and always looked forward to “sunshine and blue skies”. Rest in peace, John.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary (Cunningham) Fish; and his brothers, Thomas and Daniel.
He is survived by his sister, Mary (Thomas) Kitsmiller; nieces and nephews, Thomas II (Marie) Kitsmiller, Father Robert Kitsmiller, James (Maria) Kitsmiller, Ann (John) Irwin, Christopher (Debbie) Kitsmiller, and Sarah “Beth” (Jason) Guild, ten great-nephews and great-nieces; and his sister-in-law, Joyce Fish.
The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Father Bill Bruning and the staff of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Also, thank you to the many kind caregivers at KU Medical Center, Faith Hospice and especially Prairie Ridge, where John lived over 10 years. The family would like to thank Joan DeBauge (and her late husband, Ted) for so many years of friendship and kindness to John.
