James J. Ahern, 84, of Overland Park, KS passed away September 13, 2011. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:45a.m., Friday, September 16, at Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 7023 W. 71st St., Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30a.m., Friday at the church. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to John Paul II School (Tuition Assistance) or to Crossroads Hospice.
Jim was V. P. of the former Home Savings Association of Kansas City for 40 years, retiring in March 1992. He was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a past president of the school board. For 4 years he was a member of POMS (Parents of Miege Students). He coached QHR Grade School baseball and football as well as 3 & 2. He was a member of the downtown Host Lions Club where he once served as its president, KC Institute of Savings & Loans, and the Sierra Club. He was also an Army veteran of WWII, an original Red-Coater of the KC Chiefs, and a lifelong area resident.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eva. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Ann Morgan; daughter, Mary (Michael) Frost of New Jersey; sons, Chip (Monica) Ahern, of O.P., KS, and Patrick Ahern, of O.P., KS.; grandchildren: Christopher Frost, Jamie Burke, Courtney Frost, Kevin, Kollin, Kyle, and Katie Ahern, Ryan Ahern, and a great-granddaughter, Ella Rose Burke.
