Iva Boyd Filing, also known as Honey by her grandchildren and friends, age 96, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on May 19, 2022 at Heritage of Overland Park after a long illness. Visitation will begin at 2pm, followed by her funeral service at 3pm on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at the McGilley & Hoge Chapel. Iva will be laid to rest at Leavenworth National Cemetery with her husband of 72 years, Nicholas A Filing Sr., who preceded her in death in 2012. The family is asking family and friends to wear masks while we are in each other's company at the funeral home.
Iva was born on June 11, 1925 in Lexington, Kentucky, although she lived most of her life in the northeast Ohio area. In 1983, Iva and Nick relocated from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio to Overland Park, to be closer to her immediate family. They quickly became assimilated to their new home by joining a church, where she was a member of the Primetimers Sunday School Class, the Red Hats and the Trailblazers Club, that met every month for dinner where they met many new friends. Iva also volunteered faithfully every week at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center for 25 years.
Iva worked as a retail sales person, dental assistant, and bank teller and customer service representative for PNC Bank, where she retired. She loved to paint with oils, quilt and host family gatherings, serving up her delicious pasta and meatballs, and sausage and peppers dishes taught to her by her beloved Italian mother-in-law, Mary Filing. She was a gracious host, but had a thing about not stacking dirty dishes that has become a part of her legacy with family and friends.
In addition to her husband; Iva’s parents, Nelson and Mattie Heatwoel Acomb, preceded her in death along with six siblings. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Carol and Bill Snooks of Overland Park, Kansas; her son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas Jr. and Sherri Filing of Lenexa, Kansas; grandchildren, Cris Snooks (Stacie) of Shawnee, Kansas, Stacey Snooks Dory (Desre) of Shawnee, Kansas, Matthew Filing of Kansas City, Missouri; and Michael and Heather Filing of Overland Park, Kansas. She is also survived by 10, love of her life, great grandchildren.
