Gertrude (Trudy) Potter of Overland Park, KS passed away November 3, 2015 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park. She was born September 4, 1918 in Columbia, MO to James Jesse Baker and Edna Skaggs Baker. She graduated from Hickman High School in 1937. She was the first in her family to graduate from high school. She participated in all kinds of sports including basketball and softball. On July 20, 1940 she married John Potter from Booneville, MO whom she had met on a blind date.They moved to Kansas City in 1945 after the war. John was employed by TWA and Trudy worked for the Bureau of Aeronautics and the Department of the Navy until 1955, when they adopted their daughter, Debra Ann and Trudy became a stay at home mom. Trudy went back to work in 1962, when they moved to Overland Park working at various clerical jobs. In 1971, she started working for TWA Credit Union and stayed until she retired in 1985. The family had an opportunity to travel many places including Hawaii, Bahamas, Paris and Rome. After retiring from TWA, she wanted to stay active and work with children. She worked as a nanny for many years and it made her retirement years very fulfilling. The family would like to thank the entire staff of Garden Terrace of Overland Park for their excellent care and compassion for Trudy during this past year.
Trudy was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; her sister, Louise and several of her nieces. She is survived by her daughter, Debra (Mike) Beatty of Overland Park, KS; granddaughter, Jennifer (Marc) Gaguzis of Anchorage, AK; grandson, Michael Beatty of Gardner, KS; great-grandsons, Alexander and Jacob Gaguzis and great- granddaughter Katelyn Beatty. She is also survived by her special friends Steve Hechler DDS., Leigh Ann Hechler and their sons; Ben and Paul.
