F. Harry McBride was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on November 27, 1926 to Frank Isaac McBride of Brooklyn, NY and Mana Margaret Heidelbaugh McBride of Philadelphia, PA.
In 1936, the family moved to Providence, RI. Harry graduated from Hope High School in 1944, and soon after enlisted in the Army Air Corp. While stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, CO, Harry met the love of his life at a Colorado Women's College (CWC) dance, Shirley Mae Meredith from Raton, NM. They married March 24, 1948 in Providence, RI and moved to Overland Park, KS in 1953. Harry obtained a certificate of Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and worked as a Civil Engineer for BIF, Kaufman Industries and the majority of his career with Black & Veatch. During his retirement, Harry remained in a consulting role (in water waste treatment) with Black & Veatch until 2005. Harry was very patriotic and extremely proud of his family. He loved the outdoors, wildlife, campfires, traveling abroad (his favorite place was New Zealand), family and friend gatherings, annual trips to Estes Park, CO, and watching his grandkids in sports and music events. He was an avid Pinochle player in a club of close friends for 50+ years and square dancing for 20 years. Harry always appreciated a nice meal, enjoyed dancing (but never thought he was good at it). He never turned down a good game of Bingo or Dominos and he always made sure to top off an evening meal with vanilla ice cream. Harry was a Master Mason, member of the American Legion and the Overland Park Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. For the last 16 years, Harry resided at Santa Marta, where he thrived and was always very grateful for the wonderful people and staff he met along the way.
Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Meredith McBride and his daughter, Judith McBride McCauley.
Survivors include his daughters, Cynthia McBride Palmer (Chuck), Overland Park, KS and Gail McBride Vest (Randy), Peachtree City, GA; grandchildren, Weston Palmer (Elizabeth), Cresse Ziadat (Hazem), Charles Storbeck, Jameson Vest, Lindsay Leither (Luke) and Gregory McCauley; great-grandchildren, Luna Palmer, Isabel Palmer, Elinor Leither, Leonardo Leither, Laithen Ziadat and Quinn Ziadat.
