Deborah Ann Cato of Overland Park, KS, age 62, passed away from a stroke on March 15, 2015. Through her passion for needlecraft and tenure as a mother-baby nurse at Saint Luke’s Hospital, she nurtured the extended family of friends she leaves behind.
A graduate of Shawnee Mission South (‘70), Debi received a BA in social work from KSU and a nursing degree from Graceland College. After years of service and scheduling at Saint Luke’s, she retired for a year of freedom to stitch and b&*$%.
Debi was born the oldest of three sisters to Russell & Jackie Cato. She is survived by sisters Teri Lower (Greg) and Shelley Lichty (Jim), and nieces & nephews Vaughn (San Diego), Madeline (Denver), Adam (Lawrence) and Sydney (Hays) Lower, and Jacqueline (Kansas City) and Stephen Lichty (New York). Her soft heart and quick wit were affirmed by the counsel she frequently offered her kin, “protect your face.” She was essential to each of their lives.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at McGilley & Hoge Funeral Home, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Embroiderers Guild of America, Santa Fe Chapter at 902 Jonathan Ct, Belton MO 64012.
