

Charles Peter Puhr, Jr., 77, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 4, 2010. A lifelong Kansas City resident, Charley founded Turner's Bicycle Co. in 1960 and served as owner/operator until his retirement. He also served as Director with the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce in the 1980s. This year, Turner's Bicycles celebrates their 50th anniversary and continues to be owned and operated by the Puhr family. Charley was passionate about sports, and he spent many summers coaching baseball at Johnson County 3&2, shaping the lives of numerous young men who still drop by to check on 'the Old Man.' He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles, Sr. and Opal Puhr, sisters, Frances Gaunce and Marguerite Bain, brother, George Mitchell, and his loving wife of 47 years, Eileen. He will be dearly missed by his sisters, Catherine Karl (Henry) and Judy Johnson (I. Leon); children, Lynda Van Goethem (Bill), Charles Puhr, III (Deborah), Julia Nelson (Gary, Sr.), Steven Puhr and Richard Puhr (Xiaoping). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, at Church of the Holy Cross, 8311 W. 93rd St., Overland Park, KS 66212. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at McGilley & Hoge Memorial Chapel, 8024 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.
