As many have mentioned before, Tony also gave me my first job.  I remember when and where I was when he called and asked me if I was interested in washing dishes and bussing tables.  Of course he taught me how to do that, be a good employee and eventually trusting me to work during the day preparing his delicious sauces and the secret recipe for those well known meatballs.  I even met my first girlfriend at the restaurant.  The ultimate was when he let my brother and I work together.  Talk about taking a chance.
He was always so happy when he pulled up in his well known dune buggy.  Yes, those were the days.  My sincere sympathies to the entire family.  I know he will be greatly missed.

I have many fond memories of Tony and his family! We spent many holidays at the Scudiero home and were regulars at the restaurant. My entire family is saddened with his passing!

I remember hearing you say the Villa Capri, was the little Italian restaurant around the corner.  That little restaurant isn't so little anymore.  It started like one drop of rain hitting a lake and watching the ripples keep going,  bringing in people as strangers and leaving as long time friends.
You had such a giving heart and opened your home up to so many family members over the years. Your caring nature , gift of gab, and teller of the dumbest bad jokes, have shown your family how a good man handles life. I'm glad my sons, Chris and Corey had such a wonderful Grandpa . Enjoy being with Mary again, and please ask God before you blast Opera up there.

What can you say about Tony that hasn't been said? Words alone could never sum up such a man.  A larger than life icon. Yes, a savvy businessman, superb cook, master storyteller. But above all, a true friend,  a real father,  a loving husband and a faithful Catholic.
Perhaps he and my dad are resuming their lifelong argument about who has the best pizza...Italy or Argentina? 

Tony hired me at age 13 on Dec. 12, 1969.  I can still remember the call.  Because Tony hired me, I was able to attend Rockhurst High School.  I worked for him until March 1973 when we had to move to Cincinnati.  I last visited Tony at the nursing home in the Fall of 2019.  God Bless and Keep Tony in His Arms.

My family had it’s first taste of  pizza in Kansas City at Tony’s Villa Capri. While visiting  relatives in Chicago in the early 1960’s, we were introduced to pizza! We loved this new Italian dish and were thrilled to discover Tony’s restaurant. As years went by and I had my own family, Villa Capri was a favorite. Not only for the pizza, but because Tony always remembered us and made us feel like his family. 

Tony was  such a good person.  I started going to Villa Capri  when I was  15 years old.  There Italian Dressing  is the best ever. I use to order shrimp pizza. It was so good and different. I took my oldest brother there before he left for Vietnam. He loved the shrimp pizza also. I got letters from my brother saying we sure wish he could have a Villa Capri shrimp pizza.  I had told Tony this. The next time I went in Tony  came up to me.  He had done some checking into how to get his pizza sent to Nam.  It just couldn't be done.  I think he was more disappointed than I was.  But he checked.  That was the kind of person he was.  When my brother got back home,  that was one of the first places we went.  Tony told us that as soon as he saw us getting out of the car,  he put in our order for shrimp pizza. 
There were so many good people who worked there. From  Doris,   Kerry who was Doris' granddaughter,  Carol,  and of course Steve.  We always felt like a family. 
RIP Tony.  We will all meet again. We will sit  at a table eating shrimp pizza.  Steve and rest of his family, you are in our hearts and prayers.  

We were very saddened to hear of Tony's passing.  My father and Tony were friends from the early days of the restaurant.  In fact we have dined at the restaurant from when it began.  My wife and I have since moved to Florida many years ago, but when we return to KC to visit family and friends, we always meet for dinner at Villa Capri.  I have had many a conversation with Tony when we are there and cherish those memories.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to Steve and his entire family.   God Bless you all!

I worked for Tony in various positions many years ago. It was my first real job at 13 years old. Tony was a mentor to me. He would give me a job, show me how to do it and then got out of the way and expected me to get it done. He taught me to work hard, take responsibility and to do things the right way the first time. He would give me a break if I messed something up once or twice but man did he give you hell if you did it too many times. In a positive way that taught me attention to details. All of these thing I carried with me through life. I loved and respected this man. He and one of the many regular customers  helped me buy a car “ I -had -to -have “when I was 16. So many memories!!! Rest In Peace Tony. My thoughts and prayers to Steve, Debbie and Freddie. Your father was a giant in my eyes. 

I loved going to eat there all the time in the 80's and early 90's,  I lived about 2.miles away and would eat there aleadt twice a week ,Tony was a great man who loved his Restaurant, prayer's to his family, RIP TONY

I remember going to the Metcalf location for years. My personal favorite at the time was the sausage pizza. 

My recollection there was photos of Tony Chiaverini the world class boxer. Wish I could have gone to the original location. I will have to go to Steve's soon. 

May your memories of Mr. Scudiero be comfort to you. May he rest in peace.

Tony was sharp and informative about his Italian heritage, his love of Opera and music until the last 6 months or so on Facebook.  We all enjoyed his detailed trips to Italy, real or not, he knew every detail of his imaginary trip, maybe made actual trips but he lived them in his mind.   He entertained those he loved with those stories and many comments on his love for his beloved Mary who passed away few years previously and how he missed her.  Rest in Peace, Tony.  Condolences to his many Italian and beyond relatives and friends.  His Villa Capri restaurant since 1961 was famous as was how he entertained his customers re/his mandolin and singing.
