Angelina Cervantes Hernandez, age 85, passed away peaceful and was reunited with the love of her life, Manny, while she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren at Garden Terrace Memory Care Facility in Overland Park, Kansas on February 21st, 2020. She was born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Alberto and Salu Cervantes on February 23rd,1934. She is preceded in death by her devoted husband of 60 loving years, Manuel “Manny” Sanchez Hernandez, her Grandson, Alonzo and Great-Grandson, Chase.
Her family moved and placed their roots in the Kansas City, Kansas area of Armourdale, where she met her husband, Manuel. They were friends long before their budding romance grew over a lifetime and now continues in Heaven. After Manuel got out of the service, they married and had four children. Angelina and Manuel moved to Overland Park in 1972, where she worked at the H.D. Lee Company for over 27 years as a gifted seamstress and designer. While at The Lee Co., she designed for numerous celebrities such as: George Brett, Tony Dorsett, Earl Campbell and Danny Kaye. She loved to sew and design special occasion apparel for her family and extended family.
To know her, was to know how much she loved her music! Walking into the family home, you never knew what might be blaring from the living room or kitchen. Maybe a little of Louis Jordan, Los Tigres, VanHalen or her all-time favorite... Boy George. Some of her most cherished times, were listening to music while surrounded by her family, cooking in the kitchen and expecting to be the peacemaker when everyone was “picking on” one another. Nothing meant more to her than her family. Especially her grandchildren who owned her heart. Sleepovers with them, attending all their sporting and musical events, creating costumes & clothing for them were some of her happiest times of her life. At “Grandma’s” house, there was always juice and “Grandma Cheese”. You could always find her, with Manny by her side, in the front row of each and every one of their accomplishments.
As we share our stories and memories of her, know that she has touched each and every life with her loving, giving and caring heart. A piece of her shall live on in your hearts each day. When you think of her, remember her smile that captured you from the very first time she embraced you. May she fill your memories of love, laughter and a song that makes you think of Her.
Angelina is loved and survived by her children: Manuel “Skip” Hernandez (Renae); Michael “Snoof” Hernandez (Gail); Theresa “Terri” Harris (Marcel) and Eligio “Leejoe” Hernandez (Richelle). Her grandchildren: Michael Jr. (Katie), Gino (Kristin), Erica (Robert), Andrew (Jeff), Stacy, Nicholas, Elia, Niko, Jake, Adrian, Meredith and Angelina. Great-Grandchildren: Joey, Harper and Easton.
