Al Staab, 98, passed away on March 21, 2014. He was born in Hays, KS, on December 4, 1915, the son of John and Barbara Staab. He graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in 1933. He married Helen Heffron from Sharon, KS on September 2, 1940 at 5:30 a.m. in Falls City, NE. Al says “Just to get it over with!” The official explanation is that the priest, who drove in for the ceremony, had a prior obligation later that day and Al had to be at work at 7 a.m.) They had one son, David. Al worked 53 years in the pipe and steel business – 18 years for Sonken- Galamba Metals, 25 years for Brown Strauss Steel, and 10 years for B-S Steel. After his wife Helen died in 1982, he met his “Best Lady Friend,” Ruth, 21 years ago on a Parks and Rec trip to see the fall colors in Boston. Al was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his mother and father, and three siblings, Celeste Werth, John Staab, and Alma Lowry.
Al is survived by: his son and daughter- in- law David and Sharon; grandchildren Matt Staab, Jennifer Starcke and her husband Adam; and a great-grandson Jack.
Visitation will be at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS, on Wednesday, March 26 at 9:30 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Kansas City Hospice or to Cure of Ars Catholic Church.
