Richard was born in Sturgis, Saskatchewan on May 13, 1931. He died peacefully, surrounded by family on Dec 2, 2022. He is predeceased by his wife Micheline. He is survived by his youngest sister Lynn (Robert); his children Ann (Allan), Louise (Denis), Paul (Tracy) and Michael (Sharon); his grandchildren Erin, Andrew, Jessica, Graeme, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Jennifer and Matthew; his great-grandchildren Thomas, Rachel, Joel, Elizabeth, Jesse, Avery, Stephanie, Oliver, Winston, Jude and Abigail.
Richard joined the RCAF in March 1951 at the age of 20. He first served in Bagotville QC where he met and married Micheline Bouchard in 1953. His 25-year career took him Zweibrucken, Germany (3 Wing) Cold Lake Alberta, Ottawa, and Edmonton. He retired from the CAF in 1976 and joined the RCMP as a Special Constable where he served as an Explosive Technician in Edmonton and Ottawa.
After his retirement in 1991, he served on the parish council at St. Bernard Parish and eventually joined the Knights of Columbus. He was a 4th degree Knight and served as a Deputy Grand Knight and as District Deputy.
The family will receive friends at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road (at Albion Road) on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at St. Bernard`s Church, 1720 St. Bernard Street at 10 am. In memoriam donations to the Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County would be appreciated.
