Dear Jocelyn, Chantal, Peter and family. 

I remember watching Phillipe growing up in the coop and how he was always so happy. He was always a joy to be around in my time knowing him.  I am so sorry to hear of his passing and want to pass along condolences from my parents and I. May he rest in peace.

The first time I properly met Phil was in Franco chemistry. We were both notoriously distracted so Mme. Rocan made us sit front & center. We had a big test that day, but Phil stayed up the night before playing Starcraft and nearly slept through the entire test! With 5 minutes left, the teacher woke him up and pleaded:
"Phillippe! Please, just write your name and get a few points at least. Do what you can." Begrudgingly, Phil sat up straight and with heavy bags under his eyes,  began to write...

The next day, while handing out our graded tests, I could tell Mme. was annoyed.  When she finally handed Phil his test, it turned out he got a 99%! One of the highest in class. Though she looked slightly flustered and stern, as she turned back to the blackboard I could swear I saw a smirk form across her face. She was clearly impressed and so was I. I couldn't stop laughing.

I'll forever cherish my time I spent with Phil. He was an amazing friend and though we would often butt heads about our many differences, in the end we were always bros. He was the most loyal and empathetic friend a guy could have. If you needed a battery boost on a cold winter night, you could count on Phil. Sure, he would complain but he's the one that would show up to have your back no matter what.

I'm so thankful to have known you and for this last memory of suit shopping together. Missing you and your laugh.

Phil was a dear friend who I have known for over 15 years. He was one of the kindest, most generous people I've had the pleasure of knowing. I will always cherish the times we had together - Your irreplicable laugh and signature "Bing Bang Boom" will never be forgotten. Rest well my friend.

Phil was such a kind and gentle soul. Working with him at Sawmill was such a fun time in my late teens. Chantal, Phil and I grew close and shared so many laughs. He was so funny and so fun to be around. He was always the first to volunteer to go play sports with the kiddos and would be good at disciplining the hooligans.. but he'd also be the biggest teddy bear. The boys adored him and the girls would go to him for protection. It was an honor knowing him, thank you for the many memories and laughs. My heart is with you Chantal and all your family. Wish I could be there for the service, please accept my deepest condolences. Xo

My condolences to Phil’s family and friends. He was such a bright light for everyone around him.

There are really no words other than to say how deeply saddened we were to hear of Phil's passing. Our hearts go out to the entire family.  A friend of our son Justin, Phil was a regular visitor to our home and it was always a pleasure to see him. We loved his bright smile and quick wit. He will be remembered fondly.

Phil was a very kind and thoughtful person with a very big heart who will be missed greatly by everyone who knew him. I have a lot of fond memories of Phil playing computer games, watching sport all whilst having a laugh and a joke. Phil was always willing to listen, he was very patient and genuinely cared for people.

To the family of Philippe Smith,

I am so very sorry for your loss. I wish I had the words to help ease the immense grief and pain you all feel. Phil was taken from you too soon. That is not fair. He will not be forgotten. 

Phil was a good video game player, a great friend and an even better human being. He was generous, kind, funny, and brave. Phil was always making us smile, laughing at a joke or saving our butt in Helldivers II. He was great company in our discord server. You could always count on Phil being online almost every night of the week to play a game or just talk about life. I remember Phil telling us about his love for animals and his family.  Phil spoke often of his mother;  how much she meant to him and how she was such a supportive force in his life.

My favourite memory of Phil was having him over to our place this past fall to celebrate a friend's birthday. Sadly it was the first and last time I got to see Phil in person. He happily shared snacks and goodies he brought with him. He sat next to me most of the night. My husband and I were looking forward to having him over for our New Years Eve party.

None of us will forget his iconic "ba-ding" 

Phil faced his diagnosis with bravery, courage and determination. Phil did not complain once about his circumstances, even after he had brain surgery! Instead he resolved to fight as hard as he could and remain optimistic. In fact most days when you asked Phil how it was going he would respond things were going well. 

Again, to all the friends and family who were touched by Phil's light... I am so very sorry for your loss.... One thing that has helped me in grief is to remember that one day, when you think of Phil you will smile... Rather than cry. 

It really does happen, not tomorrow. But one day. One day you feel your love for them before the pain. 

Lastly we have donated $100 to in Phil's name to the Ottawa Humane Society.
