Paul Allan Lewis passed away in his 80th year at home, under the watchful eyes of a Palliative Care Giver, in the presence of his son David, and his sibling Penn. It was not entirely unexpected as his struggle with cancer had accelerated in the past few months.
Survived by is son David but predeceased by his best friend and love of his life Cynthia [Greening] in 2001 and their 1st son Sean in 2011. Also surviving are 3 of his 4 siblings Penn (Ottawa), Ann (Ottawa) and Phil (White Rock, BC), plus many relatives on both Lewis & Greening Family Trees.
Paul had an extensive, varied, some say distinguished, military career of which he was proud. He started in Winnipeg back in 1962, then HMCS Cornwallis. Geographically from Coast to Coast to Coast in Canada & beyond. Halifax, Gander [where he met and wed the love of his life in 1967], Bermuda, Inuvik, Alert, Masset, Shearwater and Ottawa were some of his posts. Our Family understood he was a Radioman Special, did Communications Research, worked in/on Avionics [source of hearing problems even with special headsets] finishing up at CFB Rockcliffe handling administrative duties. He retired in 1999 after 37+ years, despite requests to stay on.
He retired to spend time with Family, garden, pursue a vast range of interests, friends and relatives. Yes friends – over the years he & Cynthia had built an amazing network of friends based on their hospitality, willingness to assist others. A group he joined was the Canadian Forces Supplementary Radio (SUPRAD) System Oldtimers Association. Their motto ‘Friends Forever’ sounds like how Paul lived his life. He will be missed.
Paul requested cremation, therefore a Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday October 31, 2024,
at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa at 2pm. A reception to follow.
