It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Michel Morneau, on September 27, 2023. Born on January 8, 1954, Michel lived a fulfilling 69 years full of love, adventure and travel, and he impacted many with his warm, silly, kind, and generous heart.
Michel is survived by his loving wife, Nicole Morneau, his beloved daughters, Ann (Brian) and Dominique (Chris); his father Julien and his siblings, Dyane (Charles), Danielle, Renée (Luc), Luc (Chantale), Andrée, Sylvain (Catherine) and Josée as well as his in-laws Micheline (Rosaire) and Jocelyne (Donald, deceased). He is predeceased by his mother, Rollande Ouellet, his brother-in-law Gaston (Kathleen) and his sister-in-law Louise. He also leaves behind his two beloved grandchildren, Henry and Maren and many nieces and nephews.
Michel dedicated a significant part of his life to service, starting his career with the Canadian Armed Forces in 1972, before retiring in 1995 to follow his wife’s posting to Belgium and ensure that his family stayed together. He then began his second career at NATO in 1999 until his second retirement in 2009. His dedication to service was a lesson he always imparted upon others, alongside his advice that you never really know where life will take you, so say yes to opportunities that arise.
Michel led a life full of adventure. He travelled the world, with China, India, and Thailand being some of his favorite countries. He fell in love, marrying Nicole in 1976. He became a father, and later, a proud grandfather. Throughout all this, Michel remained active, cycling in the summer, skiing in the winter, and going to the gym year-round.
Ever the amateur craftsman, Michel enjoyed home renovation projects - building several decks at multiple different houses, a play structures for his young daughters, and later graduating to Lego in his retirement, building every possible, rare, complicated set he could get his hands on. A fan of strategic games, he enjoyed many nights of playing Risk during family holiday ski trips. He cultivated a love of good food and wine during his 15 years of living in Europe, an appreciation he made sure to share generously with family and friends.
Friends and family are invited to gather at McEvoy-Shields Funeral Home, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa, ON, on Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 12:30 pm to 2:00pm. A memorial service in his honour will follow in the chapel at 2:00 pm. Reception to follow.

His family would like to take this opportunity to thank the constant dedication and work of the nurses and doctors from The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre, Hematology Program and the Critical Care Wing.
